Eadweard Muybridge's The Horse In Motion can be seen amongst the clutter posted on the only true wall of Cal's cubicle. To answer the question as to whether all four hooves of a galloping horse leave the ground, Muybridge developed a system of motion capturing involving a series of cameras set up with electrical triggers. From there he did a variety of motion studies both of humans and animals and his work is considered by many to be the step to motion picture films. What makes Muybridge interesting in the context of State of Play is that he shot and killed his wife's lover but was he was acquitted with the jury's decision of a justifiable homicide.
